The best things to do during spring in Copenhagen
Take a bike tour
Another great way to explore Copenhagen in spring is by bike. Did you know that around 49% of the locals here commute to work and school by bike every day? The Danish capital is one of the most bicycle-friendly cities in the world and it is even more fun when the sun is finally coming out.
Since the bike lanes here have hardly any elevation, anyone can enjoy a day exploring Copenhagen by bike. There are many different Copenhagen bike tours to choose between. They allow you to discover different areas of the city as well as different aspects of the city, such as art and sustainability.
If you prefer to explore the city on your own, you'll find several places to rent a bike in the city. There are big name brand but you can also support small bike shops with a mission, such as Baisikeli. Here you cannot only find a wide array of different bikes depending on your preferences but you also support their mission to making bicycles accessible around the world and supporting bicycle ambulances in rural areas.
Visit the King’s Garden
King’s Garden is beautifully located in the heart of the city centre behind Rosenborg Castle. This garden is a true oasis right in the heart of Copenhagen and also the oldest royal garden in the country. It was first established in the early 1600s by King Christian IV as a Renaissance garden. However, it has been remodelled multiple times over the years.
Today, the King’s Garden is a pleasure garden for everyone. The garden amazes with rich flower beds including a rose garden, large herbaceous borders, grass lawns, multiple sculptures and a playground for children. Making it the perfect getaway in the city during spring.
Flowers in bloom
This may be unexpected but Copenhagen is famous for its beautiful cherry trees – located in a cemetery. The Bispebjerg Cemetery is actually the biggest cemetery in the country and one of the city’s most photographed sites in spring due to its alluring cherry blossom trees. The avenues of the cemetery are lined with cherry blossom or Sakura trees that dip the area in dreamy shades of pink.
Another great time to see the trees blossoming is the Sakura Festival, taking place at the end of April. The festival first took place in 2008, and aims at bringing together different cultures through Japan-related cultural events. The festival takes place in Langeliniepark, near the statue of the Little Mermaid.
Hunt down the best beer bars
Copenhagen is a haven for beer-lovers. The city is home to some world famous beer manufacturers, such as Carlsberg and Mikkeller. But really it is the micro breweries and craft beers that make Copenhagen a favourite destination of beer fans from all over the world.
A great way to explore the many beer bars in Copenhagen is with the Copenhagen Beerwalk. This self-guided pub crawl will take you to both the best beer bars and lead you to the best beers in town. Your ticket to the Beerwalk gives you five tokens, which you can exchange for drinks at different bars around the city.
