Medieval Amsterdam exhibition

From 7 March 2025, the Stadsarchief Amsterdam (City Archives) explores the medieval history of the city. Drawing on recent archaeological and historical discoveries, the exhibit offers a captivating glimpse into the daily lives of Amsterdammers around the year 1200. A highlight is the facial reconstruction of "the first Amsterdammer," bringing a long-lost face to life.

Visitors will journey through time, as the exhibition reveals the city's founding and growth, and discover how medieval residents lived, worked, and built their community. Significant events, like the granting of the Toll Privilege of 27 October 1275 that spurred Amsterdam's economic development, are also explored.

SAIL Amsterdam

SAIL Amsterdam comes to the city every five years, in 2025 the city will see the 10th edition of this maritime spectacle. On 20 August, a dazzling parade of vessels will make its way from the North Sea to the city centre of Amsterdam. This maritime extravaganza attracts thousands of visitors from around the world, drawn by the allure of majestic tall ships and a vibrant atmosphere.

From towering masted ships to sleek schooners, SAIL Amsterdam offers a unique opportunity to witness the maritime heritage of nations from near and far. Visitors can explore the ships, learn about their history, and experience the thrill of being aboard these magnificent vessels. The event also includes a lively festival atmosphere with music, food, and cultural performances, creating a memorable experience for all ages.
